Anneleen Michiels

As an associate professor of finance and family business at the Research Center for Entrepreneurship and Family firms at Hasselt University in Belgium, Anneleen Michiels brings over 15 years of dedicated knowledge and insight into the intersection of finance and family business. Her expertise centers around the relationships between money, family businesses, and the business families behind them.

Anneleen shares her knowledge on family business topics with diverse academic and practitioner audiences through scholarly publications, as well as through workshops and keynote speeches. Her educational endeavors extend to teaching finance to undergraduate, graduate, and executive students. As the founder and coordinator of executive courses for family wealth advisors and a visiting scholar at business schools worldwide, Anneleen exemplifies her dedication to research, education, and knowledge dissemination. She is a past FOBI scholar at Grand Valley State University and a past Family Business Chair at the European Academy of Management (EURAM).

She holds a Certificate in Family Wealth Advising from the Family Firm Institute, and is a Certified Exit Planning Advisor.  She earned her Ph.D. and M.A. in Business Engineering from Hasselt University and held academic positions at HU Brussels and KU Leuven. An active member of the international research community, Anneleen serves as a board member of the International Family Business Research Academy (IFERA) and is a member of the editorial review board for the Journal of Family Business Strategy.

Anneleen is based in Belgium. She is fluent in Dutch and English, and conversant in French.
